Kaledaitis, known as Christmas wafer, is a centuries-old Eastern European Catholic tradition. The designs of Christmas wafer are firmly protected by tradition and remain unchanged for centuries. However, on behalf of the Donoryste (Donorship) association and in collaboration with the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Consolation, we did the unthinkable—we altered the design. By transforming the wafer into both a medium and a message, we addressed a deeply rooted misconception: that the Catholic Church opposes organ donation. The updated wafer featured not only the image of the Virgin Mary but also the international symbol for organ donation and a QR code for donor registration. This marked the first time in the Church’s history that the Christmas wafer was used as an advertising platform. As a result, organ donor registrations saw an unprecedented 408% increase during the Christmas period.
